FFXIV Beastmaster Unlock: Easy Patch 7.56 Guide

FFXIV Beastmaster

September 8, 2026

Unlock FFXIV Beastmaster through Strangers in the Wood: speak to the Excited Adventurer in New Gridania (X:11.8, Y:13.6). You need a level 50 Disciple of War or Magic and The Ultimate Weapon completed.

Updated September 2026. This beginner guide uses Square Enix’s official information and avoids story spoilers.

FFXIV Beastmaster unlock: check these requirements first

The official Patch 7.56 notes identify Beastmaster as a limited melee DPS job. It starts at level 1, caps at 50 and shares monk and samurai gear. Do not confuse the level required to accept the unlock quest with the new job’s starting level.

Before traveling, our recommendation is to check your completed main scenario quests and switch to an eligible combat job. If a quest is unavailable, compare each listed requirement rather than assuming the NPC or patch is broken. Leave some inventory room so the early equipment and tutorial steps are easier to manage.

How to capture your first beast

Assess a beast with Gauge, weaken it, apply Capture and defeat it while the status remains. Successful pacts enter the Master’s Bestiary, where you assign familiars to battlehorns. Only one familiar is summoned at once.

For your first attempt, focus on understanding that sequence. Avoid racing through several targets before you know whether the status was applied successfully. Open the bestiary after a successful capture and read what your new companion does. A familiar you understand is more useful for learning than a long collection you have not examined.

FFXIV Beastmaster combat: learn one interaction at a time

Square Enix’s official producer-letter digest explains a system built around cycling familiars. Parting Blow sends a companion away after an attack and puts its battlehorn on cooldown. Tempered Release orders a beast-specific action, while Borrow grants an action to the Beastmaster. These are different decisions, not interchangeable buttons.

Instinctual skills link into combos when the Beastmaster and familiar act within seven seconds. Following the affinity colors clockwise improves the combo bonus. The developer recommends paying attention to those colors and notes that job quests introduce mechanics as they become relevant.

Our suggested learning order is simple: first identify your own action and your familiar’s action, then practice a short combination, then add swapping. If you lose track, return to the tooltips instead of copying a long opener from memory. This is a learning approach, not a claim about the highest-damage rotation.

When does the Crucible of the Unbroken unlock?

The developer digest places this solo duty in the level 30 job progression. It uses a board-like route with combat and other encounters. The Recommended Team option can help with an initial lineup. Read enemy weaknesses before choosing companions, and pay attention to healing opportunities because HP does not naturally recover inside.

On your first run, we recommend prioritizing a clear understanding of the route over a high score. Before committing to a choice, ask what your current team lacks: damage options, a way to handle a threat, or enough health to continue. Keep a short note of why a difficult encounter went wrong so the next attempt has a specific goal.

Can Beastmaster use normal roulettes?

No. The patch notes exclude Duty Roulettes and PvP. They give Beastmaster increased FATE experience, but not Blue Mage’s open-world enemy experience bonus. Plan your leveling around the rules for this job rather than reusing a Blue Mage guide unchanged.

Do you need to finish the new main story first?

The unlock conditions above do not require completing the new Patch 7.56 story. Square Enix’s Trail to the Heavens special site lists Beastmaster and the new main scenario continuation as separate additions. That distinction matters if you want to try the job while saving story scenes for another session.

The easiest first-session goal is to unlock the job, follow its introductory quests and understand one familiar. You can expand your collection afterward without turning the tutorial into a race. For more step-by-step explainers, visit the GameWilds guides hub.
