The Genshin Impact pity system limits how long a player can go without receiving a high-rarity wish result on supported banners. Character Event Wishes, Weapon Event Wishes and the Standard Wish use separate histories and rules, so planning begins by identifying the exact banner type.
What Genshin Impact Pity System means
Pity is the count of wishes since the most recent item of the relevant highest rarity on that banner type. When a 5-star result appears, the associated 5-star count resets. Four-star results have their own guarantee cycle.

Character Event Wish guarantee
On a Character Event Wish, a 5-star result arrives no later than the maximum stated in Wish Details. When the 5-star is not the featured promotional character, the next eligible 5-star on that event-banner system is guaranteed to be the featured character under the described rules.
Players call the first outcome a “50/50,” although the full live rules should be checked in-game. Pulling the featured character resets the cycle. Pulling a non-featured eligible 5-star creates the guarantee for the next one.
Does pity carry over?
Pity generally carries between successive Character Event Wishes of the same type. It does not merge with the Standard Wish or Weapon Event Wish. When multiple event-character banners run together, read the details explaining whether they share wish count and guarantees.
Do not assume a new banner visible in a leak will inherit a particular system. Wait for the official notice and inspect Wish Details when the banner goes live.
Soft pity versus hard pity
“Hard pity” is community shorthand for the published maximum number of wishes before the guaranteed rarity. “Soft pity” describes the observed increase in 5-star probability as the count approaches that maximum. The interface may publish changing probability information without labeling a specific soft-pity starting point.
Use the official maximum for budgeting. Treat community estimates as planning aids, not promises that a 5-star must arrive at a particular earlier wish.
Weapon Event Wish and the selected path
Weapon banners have different maximums, featured-item probabilities and selection mechanics from character banners. Open Epitomized Path or its current equivalent, choose the intended weapon and read whether fate points or similar progress will carry after the banner ends.
Never apply character-banner calculations to a weapon banner. The cost of guaranteeing a specific featured weapon can be substantially different from simply obtaining any 5-star weapon.
How to check your wish history
Open Wish, choose History and filter the relevant banner type. Recent wishes can take time to appear. Count from the newest 5-star result to estimate the current pity, keeping character, weapon and standard histories separate.
History availability may cover a limited period even when the underlying guarantee remains active. Keep a private record if you take a long break, but do not give a tracker your login, cookie or verification code. Manual entry is safer than unverified tools.
Plan Primogems without overspending
Set a target before wishing and budget using the maximum guarantee rather than an optimistic average. Consider whether the character fits an existing team and whether future officially announced banners matter more.
Ignore websites selling discounted Primogems or accounts with guaranteed characters. Use the in-game shop and authorized platform stores. Unexpected chargebacks can place an account at risk.
