Pokémon GO Mega Squads: choose your goal first
Our recommendation is to decide what would make this event worthwhile for you before spending items. A new Pokédex entry, a shiny hunt and a Mega-focused session are different goals. Trying to maximize all three can make a short play window feel like a checklist you cannot finish.
Write down one main objective and one optional objective. Then compare those priorities with the live event screen before leaving home. This is especially useful when you have a limited walking route, few nearby PokéStops or no regular raid group.
Plan around the two event phases
The boosted shiny focus changes from Pidgey to Carvanha on September 11 at 10 a.m. Maschiff appears in the second-phase Egg and Field Research lists, rather than those opening-day lists. The announcement also identifies a GO Pass route.
Treat the phase change as a planning checkpoint. If one target matters more than the rest, reserve time for its listed window rather than assuming that every encounter is available throughout the event. Save the announcement to your phone so you can compare it with the tasks actually offered in your game.
An Egg checklist before using Incubators
Open an Egg’s details and inspect its possible hatch list before committing an Incubator. The official Egg help page explains that each Egg shows its eligible Pokémon and rarity tiers. The icons describe relative rarity, not a guarantee of a particular result.
To incubate, open the Pokémon menu, switch to Eggs, choose an Egg and select an available Incubator. You receive an unlimited-use Incubator; extra Incubators are optional purchases. With Adventure Sync disabled, the app needs to remain open for your walking distance to count, according to the same help page.
Our budget advice: decide on an item limit before the session and stick to it. Do not buy another bundle merely because the previous hatches missed your target. A walk that fits your normal routine is a more sustainable plan than treating every unsuccessful hatch as a reason to spend again.
Check the pass before paying
Compare the rewards shown on your own free and paid tracks. Ask whether the extra items match your actual objective and whether you have time to complete the relevant progression. Ignore vague claims that an upgrade is essential for everyone; its value depends on what you will realistically use.
Keep earning deadlines and reward-claim deadlines separate in your notes. Set your own reminder ahead of the displayed cutoff rather than leaving all claims until the final minutes. Check your connection and inventory space before a planned session, and pause in a safe place when reviewing rewards.

Before you play, confirm your priority, review the relevant phase, check your supplies and choose a safe route. Afterwards, compare your result with that original goal rather than someone else’s highlight reel. No guide can guarantee your random encounters.
